BOOM: CVS Files Patent to Sell Goods in the Metaverse!
The US-based CVS Health, which recently announced the closing of 900 physical stores, has filed for a trademark that would allow the offering of products and services in the metaverse. The firm aspires to offer downloadable virtual goods that range from Rx medications to cosmetics and personal care products. The company also aims to move some of its in-store health services, such as non-emergency medical treatment, wellness programs and nutrition advisory services to a virtual setting.

German-based ePharmacy Shop Apotheke Surpasses €1B Sales in 2021 But With Losses
The German ePharmacy Shop Apotheke ended fiscal year 2021 with total sales of €1.06B, up 9.5% from the previous year. Sales of everything excluding Rx meds increased by 22.5%. Different product and country combinations, as well as one-offs owing to corona-related items, all contributed to higher gross margins. The company now strives to increase revenue growth for the current year after a successful start in 2022.

The Russian Online Pharmacies Sector Surges with a +53% Increase in Sales during 2021!
In 2021, online sales of pharmaceuticals in Russian ePharmacies soared by 53% over the previous year, with a total volume of ₽210B incl. VAT. By the end of 2021, online sales had accounted for 13.4% of total Russian pharmaceutical retail sales, including parapharmaceutical sales. Big online pharmacy corporations realized that technology-related market developments could not be prevented, therefore they rushed online and invested heavily in this direction.

Italian ePharmacy Farmaè Enters the Veterinary Products Market!
Italian ePharmacy Farmaè, enters the veterinary products market, which are added to a range of 55,000 items intended for humans. The company will now sell traditional veterinary products online, usually sold in pharmacies and parapharmacies and products distributed by specialized retailers, like food, accessories, leashes, and hygiene products. The move into the pet market is part of a bigger expansion plan for the company, which reported revenues of €108.5M in 2021, up 17% compared to the previous year.

Walgreens plans to extend its on-demand delivery services through a partnership with Shipt, an online marketplace that specializes in home delivery. In an announcement, the business claimed that OTC medications, cosmetics, personal care and convenience items will be available on Shipt. As last-mile delivery becomes the hottest topic in the eCommerce world this year, more and more online pharmacies are joining the fray. We'll simply have to wait and see who comes out on top!
