Amazon Pharmacy's Chief Medical Officer: RxPass & Coupons Driving Growth
According to Chief Medical Officer of Amazon Pharmacy, Vin Gupta while Amazon has experienced double-digit growth over the past year, it still has work to do to make providers aware of its services. Gupta also stated that RxPass, Amazon's generic meds subscription for Prime members, is a step in the right direction toward meds transparency and affordability, especially for people who might not have robust healthcare coverage. Additionally, RxPass and manufacturer coupons have both contributed to the company's success.

China Cracks Down on ePharmacies: Meituan, JD.com & Pinduoduo Among Those Named for Selling Unlicensed Meds
The Chinese State Food and Drug Administration has named multiple ePharmacy platforms, including Meituan, JD.com, and Pinduoduo, for selling meds without a license. With revenues in China's ePharmacy business hitting $5.7B in 2021, a YoY rise of 51.49%, the market for online meds has developed tremendously. A total of over 300K fines have been assessed for breaking the "Drug Administration Law" provisions. To regulate the market for online meds sales, the government has now demanded tougher control procedures.

Digital Divide in Spanish Pharmacy Industry with Only 3.2% of Pharmacies Have Online Presence
The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Pharmaceutical Products (AEMPS) reports that just 711 out of Spain's 22,261 pharmacies have an online presence. Consumers continue to rely on physical pharmacies for their meds, changing purchasing patterns brought on by the pandemic. ePharmacies made €242.5M in revenue in 2022, a 24.8% decrease from 2021, while eParapharmacies had a 32.2% increase to €37.2M. A small minority of consumers who purchase self-care goods online typically combine online and in-store purchases.

LloydsPharmacy Shared Sensitive Customer Data with Facebook and TikTok for Targeted Advertising
Without specific permission, the UK-based LloydsPharmacy has shared consumer data for targeted ads with Facebook and TikTok. The Guardian and Radio Sweden investigated the practice and found that while over 200 pharmacies in Europe may be sharing individually information to social networks, only Lloyds was sending private medical data. The effectiveness of Facebook's filter for identifying and erasing this information is unknown, and the UK Information Commissioner's Office has said that data processing for marketing purposes must adhere to data protection rules.
