German Retailer Douglas Just Acquired Dutch ePharmacy Disapo to Expand Its Online Offering!
With the acquisition of the Dutch ePharmacy Disapo, the German perfume and cosmetics retailer Douglas made a significant strategic shift to boost its online marketplace. Customers should be able to buy OTC medications in the first half of the year, and Rx pharmaceuticals with an ePrescription in the second half. Douglas is now expecting that this acquisition will boost profits and bring new buyers to its marketplace. Only time will tell how this new acquisition will influence the German ePharmacy market.

Will ePharmacies Be Permitted to Sell Medications Online Without a Physical Store in the Philippines?
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is now considering allowing ePharmacies that do not have physical locations, to sell pharmaceuticals online. However, the ePharmacy would still be needed to maintain an office location and identify the storehouse from which their pharmaceuticals are acquired in order to function legally. As the FDA stated, ePharmacies will only be permitted to offer OTC medications, as for now promoting and providing Rx medications for sale online is illegal.

Brazilian-based Raia Drogasil Strives to Reduce Its Delivery Times by 20%!
As last-mile delivery in ePharmacies gains pace, Brazilian pharmacy retailer Raia Drogasil has set a target of decreasing the delivery time by 20% of its low-turnover and stock items, from 24Hrs to 4Hrs. At the moment, the corporation can deliver 80% of its online orders in less than 4Hrs. In addition, 700 micro-poles, as the units with storage rooms are known, operate in major cities and enable medication delivery in under 90 minutes. Egyptian ePharmacy Vezeeta Eyes Greater Expansion with Its Total $73M Investment Since Its Business Debut
As Amir Barsoum, CEO of Egyptian ePharmacy Vezeeta, stated, digital healthcare is still in its early-stages and has a lot of room to grow. The company plans to utilize the total of $73M in investments to expand its services across the Middle East and Africa, as well as to pursue chances to scale worldwide in a more patient-centric model. Vezeeta will also continue to provide its services in Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, while looking to expand in Pakistan. Could the ePharmacy reach a unicorn status over the next 12 to 18 months?

Kronans Apotek and Apoteksgruppen are Merging into a New Company in Sweden with a Focus on eCommerce!
In Sweden, Oriola Kronans Apotek and Euroapotheca Apoteksgruppen are merging to form a new company with a strong focus on increasing its eCommerce services as customer behavior shifts toward online sales. This new firm will include 470 pharmacies, a full eCommerce operation of pharmaceutical products, and a total turnover of around €1,140M based on 2020 sales. With an anticipated total market share of around 25%, the new venture is projected to be the 3rd largest pharmaceutical sector player in terms of revenue in the Sweden, the top country in online visits per 1,000 residents according to ePharmacy Data.
