Is Amazon Planning to Enter the Japanese Rx Meds Sales Industry?
Amazon is contemplating the sale of Rx meds in Japan. This sale will begin next year, when ePrescriptions are permitted in Japan. According to its plan, the firm won't run its own pharmacies or keep stock. Instead, it would offer a distribution mechanism and enable small and medium-sized pharmacies to sell prescription medications online. We have to wait to see how successful this initiative will be.

German-based Douglas Cosmetics Retailer and ePharmacy Boosted Its Profitability in Q3 ’22
In Q3 ‘22, Douglas grew revenues by over 30% to €830M, while the growth was around 35% on a like-for-like basis. Additionally, the company began to expand its pharma range in May, and as a result of the successful acquisition of Dutch ePharmacy Disapo, there are currently 11K non-Rx goods available. When compared to Q3 '21, eCommerce sales, which include those from the ePharmacy, climbed by 5.3% to €276M. Overall, online sales were +110% more than they were before the pandemic began.

Will Amazon Manage to Disrupt the Healthcare Industry with Its Prime Rx Service?
It appears that the healthcare industry is tough to disrupt, even for eRetail giant, Amazon. Additionally, synergies are challenging to develop in a market with so many vested interests that overlap. For example, although Amazon's Prime Rx promises to lower costs, people who have insurance that pays a portion of their Rx costs are unable to combine the two advantages. Additionally, Amazon's product range is currently surprisingly limited compared to its competitors.

New Rules to Control the Online Sale of Illegal Meds Have Been Introduced by the Chinese State Administration for Market Regulation
The Chinese State Administration for Market Regulation has released new regulations for ePharmacies to control the unlicensed distribution of meds. The legislation makes it clear that certain pharmaceuticals can’t be sold online, including vaccines, blood products, drugs, psychotropics, radioactive drugs and hazardous drugs for medical use. ePharmacies and platforms should now modify their business plans and make them compliant with the new laws which are eligible starting December 1, 2022.
